Today marks my 1 year anniversary of starting #keto. I’ve learned a lot about nutrition, health, and fitness over the past year. I’ve had my fair share of struggles and success. I’ve challenged myself more in the past year than ever before. I couldnt have imagined being nearly as successful without the love and support of @bmatth516 , @nantoszewski , @antoszewskim ,@mdtalotta and @michelle_matzke . You all have challenged, motivated, encouraged and supported me during the past year and I love you all for that!
In one year I’ve lost 50 pounds, joined a #crossfit gym, focused on my fitness and became stronger and healtheir everyday.
My weight has always been a struggle and I will continue to fight to get to my goal weight. I always used to laugh when people said, “my weight loss journey”, because before keto I would “diet” for a few days – it would never be a journey. Seeing myself progress and face challenges everday has helped me realize this IS a journey. It might take me 1 year, 2 years maybe 5 years to get where I want to be, but you cant get thefe if you never start.
Our wedding is 108 days away. Im not where I wanted to ge right now, but I sure as hell am going to give it my all.

I was talking to @bmatth516 today about the #KetoWeddingCountdown and my ideal body type. I asked him who he though I’d like to look like at the end of this journey. Without even thinking he said @realheidipowell ! HOW DID HE KNOW? I guess I talk about her enough. Someday soon I will look similar to her.

My mom sent me this video a few weeks ago when I was feeling down and sluggish about my weight loss. Although this isn’t directly related to Keto or my fitness goals, this guys determination is enough to get anyone motivated.
You’re Eating too much Dairy
Dairy, for a lot of people can cause problems when losing weight. Dairy is usually low in carbs, but high in protein. Protein raises insulin levels which makes energy go into storage. (too much protein causes the body to store fat)
Although your body may seem to tolerate dairy product fine, eating dairy often can cause insulin to spike and be detrimental to metabolic adaption.
Not Enough Sleep!
Lack of sleep causes:
- Less Motivated
Tips to improve sleep patterns:
- No Caffeine after 2 pm!
- Sleep in complete darkness
- Avoid Alcohol and exercise a few hours before bed
- Read before bed
- Go to bed at the same time every night
Too Many Nuts!!!
Nuts are a “Whole food”, however they are very caloric and super easy to overeat on.
If your like me, You cannot be trusted with almonds or macadamia nuts.
- Portion out your nuts as soon as you bring them home
- Putting them in small snack bags ensures you’re not going to eat the whole can and over eat on calories and carbs.
You’re not eating real food.
On any low carb diet, you should aim to eat real, whole untouched foods. Examples of these foods include:
Substituting high carb foods with low carb selections is okay every once in a while, but these foods aren’t generally made with whole foods.
*If your Hungry remember that Fat will help you stay full and reduce cravings*
You Not Cutting Back on Carbs Enough
Ketosis is the natural state where the body is using fat as energy. It causes you to produce ketones which are excreted in your urine. To achieve Ketosis, you should be eating below 50 grams of net carbs per day. Individuals who are “keto-adapt” can eat up to 100 grams of net carbs and still remain in ketosis.
I personally stick to as few carbs as possible at all times. This helps ensure that I remain in Ketosis and that I continue to lose weight!
You’re losing Fat and Inches instead of weight.
Take Measurements and pictures before you start. Its the easiest way to tell if your really “stalling” or if your body is just losing inches instead.
- As long as Pounds or Inches are decreasing you’re losing weight
- Keep in mind you’re body can fluctuate upwards of 5 pounds per day
